Armed Forces Cycling Classic Introduces Pride Ride Category in Celebration of World Pride 2025
ARLINGTON, VA, May 20, 2025 — The Amazon Armed Forces Cycling Classic, taking place May 31–June 1, 2025, will introduce a Pride Ride category during this year’s Challenge Ride. This new addition is part of the inaugural Capital Cup Sports Festival, a citywide celebration aligned with World Pride 2025 in Washington, D.C.
“We’re incredibly proud to partner with the Armed Forces Cycling Classic to present the first-ever Pride Ride during World Pride 2025,” said Grace Thompson, VP Team DC & Organizer of the Capital Cup Sports Tournament. “Cycling is a powerful symbol of movement, freedom, resilience and unity—values that reflect the heart of both Pride and sport. This partnership is more than just a ride; it’s a celebration of visibility, inclusion, and the vibrant diversity of our global LGBTQ+ community.”
The Capital Cup Sports Festival will feature more than 19 sports activities and competitions, fostering connection, inclusivity, and belonging for athletes and allies alike.
“When we learned our event would coincide with World Pride, I didn’t hesitate to reach out and offer the Pride Ride as part of the overall celebration,” said Rob Laybourn, founder and race director. “It’s another way to open our tent wider and bring more cycling enthusiasts together.”
To participate in the Pride Ride, individuals must first register through the Capital Cup Sports Festival. Once confirmed, registrants will receive a unique number to use when signing up for the Pride Ride through the Armed Forces Cycling Classic registration system.
The Amazon Armed Forces Cycling Classic offers a full weekend of cycling events for riders, racers, and fans. From high-speed professional races to family-friendly rides, it’s one of the most dynamic sporting events in the region.
